Horrified Parents Were About To Throw This Baby Into The River Because They Deemed Him As An “Evil Omen,” Until The Rescue Arrived
A 22-year-old mother gave birth to a baby boy with a parasitic twin at her home in a small village, in Pindwara, northern India.
A parasitic twin occurs when a twin embryo develops in utero, but the pair does not fully separate. One embryo, meanwhile, maintains dominant development while its twin weakens.
Horrified parents and relatives deemed the child as an evil omen and attempted to throw him in the river. The bizarre news reached its way to Dr. Bharat Pal Danda of the Matra Chhaya Hospital and did not have second thoughts to rescue the boy.
“I was very shocked when I heard these relatives, who seem extremely religious and superstitious, were planning to kill the baby by throwing him into the river,” the doctor tells the Daily Mail. “I couldn’t sit back and do nothing.”
He sent an ambulance to get the mother and the baby. An urgent surgery was conducted in order for the child to survive as he was in critical condition.
“When they arrived I was upset to see the condition of the child. We did an initial diagnosis and gave him immediate treatment but the child was critical so we referred him to a better hospital,” Dr. Danda said.
The child was then taken to SMS Medical Institute and Hospital, in Jaipur. Doctors removed his extra limbs and intestines and he is now recovering well, report said.
Dr Parveen Mathur, senior professor and head of the pediatric department and the one conducted the surgery said that the boy had four legs, three hands, and two p*n*ses.
“The upper limb of the parasitic twin was underdeveloped. Even though he was internally fine, his condition was problematic due to the attached extra limbs and genitals,” he explained.
“We have now removed the extra limbs and intestines that were restricted to the parasitic twin. The boy is currently doing fine but we will continue to keep him under observation for at least a week,” he added.
