The family of a female OFW is seeking justice for what happened to their loved one while she was working in Malaysia. Joramie Garcia Torres, a former teacher who worked as a domestic helper abroad experienced severe physical abuse at the hands of her Malaysian employers. The brutal abuse included beatings, as well as being burned with boiling cooking oil and hit with a scorching hot pan.
According to the victim’s brother, Raccie Torres, a Filipino couple found the OFW dumped in an empty lot. Joramie had been missing for months and her family heard no word from her. Thankfully, the Filipino couple helped the wounded OFW and contacted Joramie’s family to let them know what happened.
Joramie’s injuries were so severe that it left her with damaged eyesight and facial scarring. The left side of her mouth was stuck together due to the severe burns. She also has burns on from her cheek to her forehead.
In December of last year, Joramie flew to Malaysia after applying at an agency in Quezon City. However, within just a month under her first employer, she escaped due to the fear that she would get r@ped. She then went to her sister agency.

In January, she was started working for her new employer, a financial manager for an oil refinery. Since then, Joramie’s family has lost touch with the OFW. She was eventually able to contact them once again in February.
When Joramie made contact with her family, the OFW became very emotional. She told her family to take care and that she loved them. In June, they discovered that Joramie went missing through a message on social media. However, the OFW’s agency declined to tell them anything.
The family had no luck finding Joramie until the Filipino couple who found the wounded OFW contacted them.
Apparently, the Filipino couple thought that Joramie was an undocumented OFW so they placed her inside a sack in order to stealthily smuggle her to a church. Later, she was brought to the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia.

“Napakasakit, teacher ang anak ko dito, tapos ganyan ang ginawa nila. Eh nagbabasakali lang naman siyang makatulong sa amin,” Joramie’s mother said in an interview with GMA News.
When the Torres family tried to ask help from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the agency told them that the OFW’s case was ongoing and they would do something about it.
Although Joramie’s abusive employers were arrested, they were soon released after making bail. The Torres family has also reported the agency that placed Joramie under the employ of her abusive Malaysian bosses. Joramie has reportedly flown back to the Philippines.

Furthermore, the Torres family are seeking help from President Duterte and calling for justice for the abused OFW.
